Designing Digital Spaces For Sustainability Using The Online Community of Inquiry Framework.
In this study, the Community of Inquiry (CoI) Framework, based on collaborative and constructivist learning perspectives, is used to design and develop a digital dashboard—a networked and interactive learning environment for developing sustainability competences. The digital dashboard will allow for supporting CoI’s three presences (teaching, social, and cognitive) that promote critical inquiry skills, in particular for the development of sustainability competencies. Our methodology involves the co-creation of this dashboard with forty (40) first-year undergraduate Web and Multimedia Development students through the participatory action research (PAR) which aims at iterative cycles of planning, action, observation, and reflection through a collaborative, participatory process that helps ensure that the research is grounded in real-world contexts and that solutions are relevant to those participating in the design and functioning of the dashboard. The dashboard is aimed at supporting students as they actively engage and develop sustainability competencies through inquiry, collaboration and problem solving learning activities that will be conducted along with university professors and industry professionals to deepen their understanding of future skills and competencies required for effectively reaching Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhancing their employability in industry.
