Quantum Applications In The Business Landscape: Potentials of The Upcoming Era of Digital Transformation
Motivated by reflections on the potential for disruptive technological transformations of entrepreneurship, in this paper, we are looking for answers to the following questions: (1) what is the state of the literature related to the application of quantum computing in business disciplines in terms of scientific productivity over time, relevant papers, authors and topics, (2) which areas of business have the recognized potential to be improved by quantum algorithms, and (3) which areas may benefit from the quantum era but have been poorly considered so far. In order to answer the research questions, we use a literature review methodology, combining bibliometrics insights with a full-text review of 129 journal articles in the field. As it turns out, the knowledge field is young, with higher scientific productivity since 2022. The results show the overwhelming presence of finance as a discipline of quantum computing application, especially in the problems of portfolio optimization, stock market prediction, option pricing, and financial fraud detection. A smaller part of the papers (only about 15%) refers to the quantum applications in marketing, management, microeconomics, accounting, and entrepreneurship. The weak interest in researching the quantum possibilities in these domains is a serious research gap, especially in the context of integrating quantum algorithms with artificial intelligence-based systems, primarily in the function of improving a range of entrepreneurial activities and processes.
