Ordinary Differential Equations For Dialysis: From Theory To The Web - A Simulation Tool

This paper presents the resolution of the dialysis procedure through its ordinary differential equations (ODEs), our novelty being to make it available on a freely accessible web page, thus permitting a user to change the problem parameters at will. The mathematical model lies on the transfer of urea between the patient and the dialysis machine. The ODEs are solved numerically (for generality) using the Python ‘solve_ivp’ module, under the Web language PHP with ‘gnuplot’, running on the server side, thereby dispensing with any software installation by the user or operating system match. This study suggests this type of use for many other technical tasks. We use the same program off or on the Web, a medium we have long recommended to solve problems. This oft-overlooked practice would make publications more useful and reinforce the academia-industry link and technology transfer
